Under general direction, the Substance Use Counselor provides behavioral counseling and education to substance use population through individual and group sessions.
The position manages a caseload of clients and is responsible for keeping all required documentation up to date.
This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Develop treatment plans in concert with Program Director or Clinical Supervisor that reflect an understanding of specialized Track issues as related to the physical, medical, cognitive and psychosocial needs and specific diagnosis.
Use a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to work collaboratively with clients and internal and external treatment team members to help support clients in their treatment and recovery Provide clinical consultation to referral resources, Mentors, family members, and others to help support clients in their recovery Work closely with clients to engage them in the decision-making process and help them understand the benefits of assessment and accessing the appropriate level of care as indicated Collect and review referral information upon assignment of clients from the referral source and consult with others as needed to support coordination of services and scheduling of client interviews Based on assessments, make referrals to the most appropriate programs and agencies in an effort to help clients access the right level of care to best meet their treatment needs Assist clients with scheduling an admission or first appointment date at the program or facility where they are referred Monitor client access to and involvement with treatment and other providers to help address barriers to treatment and the recovery process Model and support health and wellness activities and healthy coping skills for clients Supervise and manages clients on assigned caseloads in concert with Program Director or assigned supervisor to insure treatment goals and objectives are being met.
Facilitate group and individual counseling sessions as requested.
Facilitate family sessions as requested.
Keep clinical files for assigned caseload accurate and current in a timely manner, including Planning and Progress notes.
Conduct discharge planning as assigned.
Facilitate crisis intervention as needed.
Adhere to multidiscipline treatment recommendations that are incorporated into treatment plans.
JOB DESCRIPTION CONTINUED Participate and takes a leadership role in Treatment Plan Reviews and Case Conferences.
Represent Samaritan Daytop Village at meetings and speaking engagements, as requested.
Adhere to Samaritan Daytop Village's treatment philosophy and mission.
Adhere to Clinical licensure and accreditation standards.
Keep abreast of changes in field.
Perform other duties as requested.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Human Services for Provisional QHP status (must obtain CASAC or other QHP status within 3 years plus required Trainings in Addiction within one year of their hire date.
Minimum One-Two (1-2) years related experience working with clients with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) for designated agency programs.
Some programs are able to absorb newly certified counselors.
Knowledge and/or training in Trauma Informed Care and various organizational treatment.
Knowledge of and experience working with persons with co-occurring disorders.
Knowledge of the laws regarding personnel and client information.
Knowledge of Client Rights.
Knowledge of Code of Ethics.
